Injuries

As a result of the RPG explosion to the upper left area of his body armour chest plate sustained in the fire fight in Basra on 22nd March 2007, Craig suffered serious injuries. Extensive damage resulted in the loss of the left eye totally. A temporary prosthetic eye was fitted by U.S. military surgeons in Balad, Iraq.

It is hoped that this will be replaced with a more life like version at a later stage.

Extensive damage to the right eye which suffered trauma resulting in damage and detachment of the retina, and damage to the lens and cornea. The U.S. surgeons performed major surgery whilst in Balad to save the eye from being lost.

The RPG explosion and shrapnel blew an open wound in the left arm which shattered the humorous bone and caused extensive damage to the tendons and forearm. Surgery in Balad again reconstructed the damage to the upper arm whilst the lower arm would need skin grafts to repair at a later stage.

Shrapnel from the grenade caused severe damage to the left side of the face and pieces were removed in surgery in Balad. The nose was broken badly, facial bones, eye lids, and bottom lip badly damaged. These were later reconstructed in Lanstuhl, Germany by U.S. cosmetic surgeons. Bottom teeth are still missing.
